Scotland, and in particular Glasgow, has long been an inspiration to activists and professionals working to end prostitution in other countries. Scotland is clear: prostitution is violence towards women and children. Other countries are beginning to follow its lead. I am proud to be associated with the women and men who are working with such determination and courage to end the complacency surrounding the effects on women and society of prostitution. Long may you continue to lead the way in this crucial struggle to end the commercial sex industry and bring about true equality between men and women.

Congratulations to Glasgow City Council in launching the End Prostitution Campaign with the support of partners. Glasgow’s courageous and historic stance against the institutionalization and normalization of prostitution and the sex industry is known and admired in many parts of the world. Our hope is that this model will be become national policy in the fight against sex trafficking and sexual exploitation not only in Scotland but globally.

We believe prostitution is a form of Violence Against Women. For too long, society has concentrated on the perceived 'choice' (or, in reality, the lack of choice) open to women exploited through prostitution. This approach fails to take into account the only real free choice involved - that choice exercised by a man each time he pays a woman for sex. We fully support the endprostitutionnow campaign and this focus on the buyers of sex. Highland Violence Against Women Strategy & Delivery Groups
Feminist Coalition Against Prostitution (FCAP) supports the Campaign!
I fully support this campaign. Prostitution is not a free choice but is an act of desperation to survive in difficult circumstances. We will never end the appalling trafficking of men and women without this law. Bailie Dr Nina Baker, Scottish Green Party, Councillor for Anderston / City Ward
Amnesty International UK held their annual AGM from the 9-11th April 2010 at Warwick University. The Paisley Branch have, since their inception, been particularly concerned with trafficking and prostitution as a form of violence against women and children. They decided to propose a resolution at the Conference that would bring prostitution per se to the attention of the members. The following resolution was overwhelmingly passed both in the working party and in the plenary and will now be taken to the International level: This AGM decides that in light of the Integrated Strategic Plan’s (2010-2016)long term perspectives, in particular, the need to integrate gender and women’s rights, international justice and the exploitation of children throughout the perspectives, AIUK believes the time is now right to ask the International Secretariat to review the issues of prostitution and human rights. The Scottish Women's Convention would welcome any change in legislation which criminalises the act of purchasing sex and recognises that prostituted women are victims of male violence against women.
